BAM continues distribution of the certified fluorescence emission standard “Calibration Kit” - BAM F001b – BAM F005b NEW: BAM-FCalKit
The certified fluorescence emission standard BAM FCalKit “Calibration Kit” contains BAM F001b – BAM F005b as a set and is a tool for the calibration and performance testing of fluorescence instruments. It enables the traceable determination of the wavelength-dependent relative spectral responsivity s(λ) of the emission channel/detection system of fluorescence instruments under conditions used for routine fluorescence measurements, using the data measured of the CRM BAM-FCalKit by the user and the BAM evaluation software LinkCorrWinV1.3.
The CRM BAM FCalKit can also be used for:
• Determination of spectrally corrected, instrument-independent fluorescence emission spectra.
• Determination of the long-term stability of the emission detection system of fluorescence instruments.
• Instrument Performance Validation (IPV) of fluorescence instruments. The CRM BAM FCalKit is available as a set of 5 broadband emitting dyes, that are spectrally adapted to each other. For the application as spectral fluorescence standards the dyes provided as solid samples, must be dissolved in absolute ethanol. The BAM evaluation software LinkCorrWinV1.3 is accessible as a password protected download after purchase. The SOP for the application of the CRM BAM FCalKit, developed and validated by BAM, and the certificates of the 5 dyes (spectrally corrected, normalized emission spectra and their wavelength-dependent measurement uncertainties) are included in LinkCorrWinV1.3.
The previous distribution was carried out by Sigma Aldrich, product number 75255.

New reference materials: BAM-U200 and BAM-U201 Sewage sludge asches
Sewage sludge ashes have so far been "recycled" as backfill material, additive for cement, ceramics and bricks or as material for landfill construction, or they are deposited as waste above or below ground. In terms of sustainable resource management, however, sewage sludge ashes also represent an interesting, potentially sustainable source of phosphate. Since phosphate deposits are limited, the potential recovery of phosphate from sewage sludge ashes and its processing into fertiliser is of particular importance. In order to prove compliance with the limit values for the respective recovery or disposal option according to the legal regulations, the sewage sludge ashes must be analysed for their contents prior to the respective recovery.
The two reference materials are an iron rich (BAM-U200) and an aluminium rich sewage sludge ash (BAM-U201). Reference values were determined for the mass fractions of the elements Al, As, Ca, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Na, Ni, P, Pb, Sn, and Zn. In addition to the total contents, the contents of these elements extractable with aqua regia were also determined. The determination of element contents after extraction with aqua regia as a convention method plays an increasingly important role in the daily practice of testing laboratories in the assessment of environmentally relevant pollutant loads and is prescribed in numerous national and international regulations.BAM-U200 report

New reference materials: BAM-U030 Pentachlorophenol (PCP) in Wood BAM-U130 Trace Elements in Wood
The efficient recycling of waste wood, which accumulates in large quantities in numerous sectors, is becoming increasingly important in terms of sustainable resource management. Since wood was often impregnated with substances that are now banned in the past, the use of waste wood (recycling or incineration) is regulated in several European countries. Reliable analytical data are thus required for a decision regarding the further use of waste wood, which - due to their great economic and ecological impact - must be backed up by suitable quality control.
The two new certified reference materials BAM-U030 and BAM-U130 replace the first material ERM-CD100, which has been sold out in the meantime and in which the mass fractions of arsenic, cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, mercury and pentachlorophenol (PCP) were certified. The starting materials were different types of wood, which were crushed by cryogenic grinding and then prepared to obtain contents of heavy metals (BAM-U130) or PCP (BAM-U030) in the range of the limit values of the Waste Wood Ordinance.
The two CRMs can be used within the framework of internal laboratory quality assurance to verify (determine the trueness and precision) the analytical results obtained with known test methods and to validate modified or new methods.BAM-U030 report

New certified reference material BAM-M504b automobile catalyst
The use of automobile catalysts is necessary to comply with international limits for exhaust emissions of cars. The catalysts normally are made of a ceramic hollow piece plated with the platinum group elements platinum, palladium and rhodium as active components. The precious metals contained in the catalysts represent a considerable value, therefore high demands on precision and accuracy of the analysis are following. For that reason a few years ago BAM certified the reference material ERM®-EB504 and later ERM®-EB504a. This CRM is no longer available. Aim of the certification of the reference material BAM-M504b was to certify a suitable subsequent material with certified mass fractions of the precious metals Pt, Pd und Rh with small uncertainties. The CRM is produced using a used cordierite based car catalyst with mass fractions of (1159 ± 8) mg/kg of platinum, (1128 ± 9) mg/kg of palladium and (314,2 ± 2,6) mg/kg of rhodium. The material is available in form of powder (particle size < 0,1 mm) in bottles containing 200 g. It is intended as a tool for laboratories for development, validation and quality control of analytical methods for the determination of platinum group elements in automobile catalysts.
