Reference materials are essential, when the accuracy and reliability of measurement results need to be guaranteed in order to generate confidence in the analysis. This is because incorrect measurements can result in incorrect decisions, and therefore also in substantial additional costs or even hazards. For this reason, BAM provides its clients from industry, research institutes and authorities with high-quality reference materials targeted to their needs. The BAM Webshop offers online access to over 400 materials from various areas, such as Iron/Steel, Environment, Food, Polymers, and many more. You can also find an overview of BAM's current reference material programme in the CRM catalogue.
Reference materials guarantee that measurement results can be compared to recognised reference values. Reference materials are frequently used for determining measurement uncertainty, for calibration and for validation of methods, suitability testing and quality assurance. The use of (certified) reference materials for quality assurance is even a requirement (under ISO 17025) for accredited testing and calibration laboratories.
BAM can draw on over 100 years of tradition in the area of developing and certifying reference material and is today accredited by DAkkS as a producer of RM in accordance with ISO Guide 34 (General Competency Requirements for Producers of Reference Material). Our reference material is certified in accordance with the principles and requirements of the relevant ISO Guides 34 and 35.
In RM development, BAM uses its many years of collaboration with accredited laboratories as well as its measuring expertise as a designated institute in the area of 'Metrology in Chemistry', as proven – among other tests – in numerous ring trials (z.B. CCQM / BIPM).
